The Mule tries to be inclusive of all that is good about the south.<BR/><BR/>Valerie MacEwan started The Dead Mule School of Southern Literature in 1995 as a print magazine under a grant from the NC Arts Council before turning it into a we zine soon after. As she says, "The Mule does not discriminate but good taste and superb quality supercede all other criteria."<BR/><BR/>I joined the staff in 2006 as poetry co-editor and became poetry editor in 2007.
